PEDRO CABRITA REIS – Lisbon, 1956
Lives and works in Lisbon
“Castelo” (Castle) 2012
Yellow granite 300 x 180 x 180 cm
The artist works on themes and forms, which both occupy and take over the surrounding space the way architecture does, even when traditional modes of construction and architecture are boycotted. In this example, we face either a model of a building or an example of a monument, and either an archaic idea of a tower and castle or a model and a memorial. The granite stone evokes history long gone by, whilst the enclosed stones allow for sunlight to dynamically shine upon the surfaces, marking the different moments of the day.
